Short Biography

An avid musical theater musician, I've played on Broadway with SIX and The Lightning Thief, appeared at La Jolla Playhouse and on tour with Hundred Days, and toured nationally with How the Grinch Stole Christmas as well as The Lightning Thief.  Equally proficient in drum set and orchestral percussion, I am adept at playing a multitude of styles and have performed in a wide variety of New York musical theater productions, including Little Shop of Horrors, Suffs, Between the Lines, In The Heights, …The Great Comet, The Drowsy Chaperone, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Sweeney Todd, and Hello Again. I have originated the drum books for several musicals, including Interstate, Hound Dog, American Morning, and Pryor Rendering

Over the past two decades I've performed with many orchestras, chamber groups, and artists including PitchBlak Brass Band, Pharoahe Monch, John Hodgman, the Bengsons, Brass Queens, VÉRITÉ, the Songwriter’s Orchestra, the Broadway Sinfonietta, Melissa Li & the Barely Theirs, and Kermit the Frog. I have performed at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, National Sawdust, Blue Note, Brooklyn Bowl, (Le) Poisson Rouge, and Joe's Pub. As a musician-actor, I’ve worked with some incredible directors, including Rachel Chavkin and Anne Kauffman.

Originally from Cumberland, MD, I have a Bachelor of Music from the University of Maryland and a Master of Music from Mannes College, the New School for Music. I've studied with John Tafoya (National Symphony Orchestra), Michael Werner (Metropolitan Opera/Seattle Symphony), Barry Centanni (Orchestra of St. Luke's), Allison Miller (Ani DiFranco/Brandi Carlile), and Tony Martucci (Joe Lovano).

In 2017, Allegany High School – my alma mater – dedicated an award in my name: the Ashley Baier Award In Percussion Excellence, given to a graduating senior who demonstrates outstanding leadership and dedication to the highest level of musical performance.

I have been published by Tom Tom Magazine.

I currently live in Brooklyn.
